DDPP is the baby of Miss Marcy Girt and Miss Glennis McMurray who run the NY chapter. After a night of being burned, yet again, by the cabaret laws of NY (no dancing in bars without a cabaret license!) they hatched a plan to create an environment where they could dance without being scolded or hit on by greasers at the clubs. Thus: DDPP was born!
The fabulous DDPP New Zealand was established by Elisabeth Williams, who hails from the good ‘ol USA, and was first exposed to DDPP in Chicago. She has a similar history as Marcy and Glennis of squashed public dancing dreams, but mostly due to the club scene in Denver being consistently less than stellar, and prone to random closures (thorough evidence here). While Wellington does have some decent spots to boogie down, the idea of dancing for a set time once a week away from ogling eyes was too good to pass up. And so, here we have the first international chapter of DanceDancePartyParty!
